Dear Parents:
What a joy it is to welcome
in the month of March with the thought of Spring not far away! As we approach
this time of year our minds naturally begin to think toward the future. For
parents of kindergarten students the thoughts of all-day first grade come
to mind. We marvel that our little ones who just entered school this year
will be reading and writing and soon spending 6 hours a day away from us!
For parents of first graders the thoughts of new buildings and many other
changes come to mind. Please know that we at Weston are already planning activities
and experiences that will help guide our young students in these transitions.
For right now Im including a few suggestions of what you can do to help
prepare your child as he/she continues to grow and mature:
Celebrate your childtell him how special he is.
Talk about what shes learning in schoollet her know how smart
you think he/she is, and more importantly, how effort pays off.
Discuss the future. Ask questions about what hed like to do when hes
older. Encourage him to imagine and dream.
Talk briefly about upcoming changes. Express your excitement.
Continue to be in close contact with whats happening in school. Call
Homework Hotline!
Read to your child every day (not just in March!) Research shows success in
school is connected to how often a child is read to at home.
Encourage your child to be independent in ways that are appropriate for his
age.
Praise their efforts!
Later in May, we will have a Coffee & Conversation for parents
to talk about helping your student through transitions. Please plan on coming!
In the meantime, enjoy the wonderful ways your child is growing and
learning.
